How does this happen? Every year there is a statute published that puts into effect an increase in the amount of compensation an Employment Tribunal can award.  This also has an effect on redundancy payments, as the statute includes the maximum weekly pay used for calculating statutory redundancy pay.

This year the increases come into effect on the 6th April, but they’re not really going to make a huge difference as there are only very small increases.  So for example the maximum weekly pay will go up to £479 (this year it has been £475) and the maximum award a tribunal can give for unfair dismissal will increase to £78,962 – unless your annual salary is less than this, in which case it is 12 months of your salary.

So it’s basically the same as it was – just with a very small improvement!
