Infected Blood Claims: Seeking Justice for Victims.
Contaminated blood was used in NHS blood transfusions during the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, leading to thousands of people being unknowingly infected with serious bloodborne viruses, including HIV and Hepatitis B and C. Many remain unaware of what they were infected with, and the range of infections extends beyond these viruses to other serious blood and tissue complications.
Following the findings of the Infected Blood Inquiry, the government has established the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA) to provide compensation to those infected and their close relatives (referred to as “affected persons”).

What happened?
In May 2024, the Infected Blood Inquiry revealed that tens of thousands of people were given contaminated blood and blood products through the NHS, dating back to the 1970s. At least 3,000 people died, and the inquiry estimated that around 30,000 were infected with HIV and Hepatitis. These infections occurred through blood transfusions and treatments using blood products.
Blood and blood products used for transfusions and treatments were not adequately screened for viruses, particularly HIV and Hepatitis C, during this period and many were contaminated.
As a result, many patients were infected with dangerous viruses through unsafe blood products.
There have been allegations of a cover-up, including the destruction of key documents and the provision of misleading information to the public. All of which led to the 2024 Inquiry.

Upon the report’s release, former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was “truly sorry” for the “decades-long moral failure.” Victims and their families are now looking to fight as they seek financial compensation.
