Superyacht Dispute – Recovery of Damages & Costs Over £2.5m

Tim Reynolds was shortlisted for Lawyer of the Year following successful rejection of a superyacht and recovery of damages through Arbitration. The vessel had been sold in an incomplete state, causing serious faults throughout its systems. Despite repeated warranty work, it ultimately became unusable.

We served Notice of Rejection and instructed Experts who identified the cause of the problems. When the claims were resisted, we pursued Arbitration Proceedings and, following a lengthy Final Hearing, the claims were upheld.

Outcome: Our client recovered more than £2.5m, including damages, interest and legal costs.

Defective New Build Vessel – Recovery in Excess of £1m

Acting for vessel owners, we successfully negotiated the re-purchase of an allegedly defective new build vessel following a lengthy dispute.

The matter involved the appointment of Experts to identify the scope and extent of latent defects within the vessel’s structure.

Outcome: The dispute concluded with the vessel being repurchased by the Suppliers and recovery for the owners in excess of £1m.

Claim Following Unauthorised Movement & Theft of Inlands Waterway Vessel

We successfully pursued a claim for losses on behalf of owners following the unauthorised removal of a vessel from a safe mooring by a Marine Operator and its subsequent theft and loss. Claims were advanced on the basis of conversion and breach of contract.

Outcome: The claim was successfully resolved, securing recovery for the owners in respect of their losses.

Complex International Yacht Purchase & Registration

Acting for prospective purchasers, we successfully completed the purchase of a large sailing yacht based offshore. The transaction required a complex understanding of registration and EU tax requirements, together with the instruction of local Professionals to advise and assist in establishing clear, unencumbered title and EU VAT paid status.

Outcome: The purchase was completed successfully, with clear title established and the vessel appropriately re-registered.
