A previously unpublished 2016 workplace review into Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust maternity services has highlighted serious concerns about staffing pressures, workload and workplace culture within the maternity unit. The report, brought to public attention by the BBC this week, indicates that warnings about safety and culture in the service were raised years before later investigations into maternity care at the Trust.
This follows the recent concerning BBC Panorama findings and adds to the anticipation of the independent Nottingham maternity services review findings’ publication next week. Led by Donna Ockenden, the review has examined cases involving serious concerns about maternity care at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust over a number of years, including baby deaths and instances of substandard care.
The findings will be published publicly on Wednesday 24 June 2026. and made available on the official website of The Independent Maternity Reviews on the day of release.
